Rexac: Barcelona s midfield and defense are out of touch. Yamal is too young to handle things well

Barcelona star Rexach was a guest on the show and analyzed the team's performance after losing in the Bernabeu El Clasico, tactical issues, Yamal and head coach Flick and other topics.

How do you analyze Barcelona's defeat in El Clasico? What is the team's main problem?

The weakness of Barcelona's game is: "The distance between the fronts is too big." Barcelona wanted to press but didn't do it well enough. The ideal distance should be 10 meters. Sometimes, the team is pressing, but there is a 25-meter distance between the midfield and the defensive line. Barcelona's midfield is often too close to the front and too far from the back.

Did Real Madrid make any tactical changes in this game?

When Barcelona played Real Madrid last year, we actually had a front three, but we had Raphinha, a guy who played in the midfield and ran up and down like a madman. Real Madrid always use three forwards: Rodrygo, Mbappe and Vinicius. But in the last game, the situation was reversed. Real Madrid put four players in the midfield, "of course, it stretched us".

You mentioned the midfield structure. What's wrong with Barcelona's system and pressing?

If you want to play 4-4-2, it's three lines. But you have to place the four people in the middle in a diamond shape. Now everyone wants to move forward. But then they become disconnected from the defence. Barcelona has always relied on pressure to play football, but now someone else is pressing Barcelona. Sometimes we couldn't even get the ball out. Nowadays all teams analyze the game, they study it. One day, people will wake up and understand you.

Barcelona seemed to improve in the second half, but why did they still lose? How do you rate Real Madrid?

In the second half, I think Real Madrid made a mistake. Barcelona started to improve a bit and started to reach the opponent's penalty area because they controlled the midfield, had more possession of the ball and dominated the situation, but "no shots". "In the end, if you don't shoot, you don't score." In contrast, Real Madrid took far more shots with far less possession.

Even so, I see Real Madrid being weak in all games. They are not a team in great form and they struggle to win games. I was sure it would be a complicated game.

What do you think of Yamal’s remarks?

He was involved in a storm that he didn't need to be involved in. He's too green for all of these things, and it doesn't do him any good. He has to live for football, train and play. He got himself into trouble unnecessarily.

What do you think of the team's current injury situation?

Barcelona has a good lineup, but the only thing I find strange about this team is the number of muscle injuries they have. In football, if you're not 90% or 100%, you don't play. It's not a good idea to play injured players in the second half or in the final moments. You have to start him. If he fails, you still have room for a substitution.

Whose injury are you most worried about?

What I am most worried about is Rafinha’s injury. "The biceps femoris injury is complicated because that's the muscle used when shooting. When you run, you don't feel pain at all, but when you shoot hard, it hurts."

How do you evaluate head coach Flick?

Flick's great success is that he makes the dressing room very tight-knit and very happy. He was very enthusiastic and the players embraced him. I never hugged any coach.
